February is already upon us! We are nearing competition time! Love how the dancers are progressing! Keep up the hard work! J
Tuition:
Tuition is due this week, no later than the 10th. Late fees of $10 per week will be added to accounts not paid by the 10th of the month. Those who are doing hip hop, the costume for that must be paid off by February 3rd. Printed statements were sent home last week.
Registration forms: I am STILL missing registration forms. I will be sending home an envelope with a registration form if yours is still missing. PLEASE return it ASAP! The information on it is very important, and allows me to contact you in case of emergency, or to send out emails and reminders, especially now during competition time! Also, those who are doing the CREW boys hip hop, you will need to fill out a separate one. ALL new students will also have a registration form to turn in.
Team mom committee: If you are interested in being on the Team Mom committee, please contact Kate Jackson at 801-995-8081 or mjkjackson04@yahoo.com
Earrings: I will be ordering earrings for competitions. If you would like some, please let me know how many pairs by Friday, February 3rd. Earrings are $6 per pair. If you would like to see them, go to www.claires.com and enter 80008 in the search. I will be placing the order Friday evening, so ALL orders must be in by then. Please include the payment with your February tuition. Costume accessory list, updated Jan. 24, 2012

Costume accessory list 2011 – 2012:
I have 2 websites that I LOVE for purchasing dancewear: www.discountdance.com or www.dancewearsolutions.com either of these websites have good prices. I think “discount dance” ships a little faster, but if you order early enough, you won’t have to worry about that. I have set up a “guide list” on the “discount dance” website so that you can look at the item, and choose to purchase it if you would like. You can go to the website and look us up under our studio name. You can also purchase them at any dancewear store, but I have found that online is less expensive. Below is a-per class list of things you will need for your costumes and competitions. (Please remember that pictures are before competitions, and you will need items for pictures too!) Also, when purchasing the foot undeez, it is OK to get the nude ones with rhinestones. (I also have several pairs of black jazz shoes to try on and purchase for those who need them.)
You are also welcome to purchase a “camisole”. A camisole is a flesh colored leotard that helps protect you from see-through costumes or itching from costumes and just adds a little protection. A camisole is an optional purchase, and a camisole with convertible straps is even better!
A reminder to write your name in EVERYTHING that will be coming to competition, recital or classes/practices! You might not think it is a big deal, but with you have 30+ of the same things, mix-ups can happen. Headbands, tights, shoes, foot undeez, gloves, shirts, warm-ups, EVERYTHING! Take a few minutes after you get your items to write your name (just last name is fine, or first name) on the tags of your items to assure that, if lost or misplaced, they will be returned to you. Every year we have lost or misplaced costume items and if your name is in them, you won’t have to worry about not having them for your next use. Don’t write the name on the package write it on the actual item. On the foot undeez, use a ball point pen to write one name on the inside of the little square where the size is. We will have over 75 pairs of foot undeez…please keep a special watch on yours. After you receive your costumes, please take each item and write your name on it. Even if you have to put a small piece of masking tape on the inside and write on it.
Another thing, keep your items put in a bag of some sort. While unusually rare, it has happened that other dance studios will steal your items if left out. Please keep all your items and costumes put away. “Out of sight, out of mind”. Do not take your costume off and thrown it down. It can get ruined or stolen. Use a duffle bag or garment bag to keep your items nice. We usually don’t have a problem, and are ok leaving our items in our dressing room, but the few rare times we have had a theft, it was because it item(s) was left out where it could be easily grabbed. As we get closer to competitions/performances, we will send home a detailed list of guidelines. (The * means it is the suggested choice.)

Happy New Years! Its 2012…time to get busy! We are ready to start the year off right. Hope the holidays found you safe and happy. Don’t forget to check out our website for newsletters or up-to-date information. We also have a Facebook fan page. We post information on there as well. Join our group to be in-the-know.
Tuition: Tuition is due this week, no later than the 10th. Late fees of $10 per week will be added to accounts not paid by the 10th of the month. Also, costume fees are now past due. Finance charges will be applied if you have not already arranged a payment plan with me. If you are doing hip hop, the costume for that must be paid off by February 3rd. If you would like a statement, you can email dancerandylynn@gmail.com and my office assistant will either email one back, or if you prefer a printed statement, we can get one to you.
Registration forms: I am STILL missing registration forms. I emailed those who are still missing them, PLEASE return it ASAP! The information on it is very important, and allows me to contact you in case of emergency, or to send out emails and reminders. Also, those who are doing the CREW boys hip hop, you will need to fill out a separate one. It will be attached to this letter if you need to fill one out. ALL new students will also have a registration form to turn in.
P.O.D.: Our next parent observation day is February 27th, 28th, 29th and March 1st.
Studio closures: In January, the studio will be closed Monday the 16th for Martin Luther King Day. We will also be closed Monday, February 20th for President’s Day. (We will be looking at a “make-up day” for one of these classes. More info to follow.) Also, the studio will be closed for Spring Break in April from the 9th – 13th.
Hip hop classes: Registration is now open for the hip hop classes. These classes are optional, and require extra tuition due monthly, plus extra costume and competition fees. Costume costs are below, and it will add only $28 to your competition fees. This is a great opportunity to learn a different style of dance, and get more performance opportunities. Here are the classes available:
·         Jr girls hip hop, ages 6 – 11 yrs: Friday’s 6:45 – 7:30 p.m. (Cost of class depends on other classes registered for, call/email for pricing.) Costume - $30 (will need to have tan tights and plain white tennis shoes for competition.)
·         Sr girls hip hop, ages 12 – 18 yrs: Friday’s 5:45 – 6:45 p.m. (Cost of class depends on other classes registered for, call/email for pricing.) Costume - $45 (will need to have tan tights and plain white tennis shoes for competition.)

So if you have 2 dancers in the same family doing hip hop, the first one will be regular price, the second will be half off per month, and this includes boys too! Also, you have until February 3rd to pay off hip hop costumes. This gives you extra time. (I have even had parents give the hip hop class as a Christmas present to their dancer!) Boys classes may be combined depending on number enrolled, but I would really like to keep them separate, so get your friends to enroll too! ½ off monthly tuition still applies to hip hop referrals!

Stars information: This section is more information for our Stars Show Team company members.
* Attendance: A few of our dancers are getting close to their tardy/absence limit. Below is your number of absences and tardies per class. Remember the allowed absences are 4 per dance year and 4 tardies per dance year, which is September through May. It is NOT 4 from September – December and 4 from January – May. We have decided to modify the policy slightly. The previous policy read: “All dancers are allowed 4 absences and 4 tardies in each class September through May.  Although dancers are allowed 4 absences, we encourage perfect attendance. Dancers should only be absent if it is absolutely necessary. When the 4 absences or tardies is reached, a counseling session will be arranged between student, parents, teacher and Director. After 1 more tardy or absence, student will be excused from team without refund.” Here is the new policy regarding tardies and absences: “All dancers are allowed 4 absences and 4 tardies in each class September through May.  Although dancers are allowed 4 absences, we encourage perfect attendance. Dancers should only be absent if it is absolutely necessary. When 4 absences or tardies are reached, a counseling session will be arranged between student, parents, teacher and Director. After 1 more tardy and absence, student will not be allowed to compete at the next competition. She will still be required to attend competition, but will not be allowed to compete. If another tardy or absence occurs, dancer will then be excused from the team without refund.” This is slightly different than the previous policy, but please be aware of the changes. Also, if you are NOT going to be in class, please let either myself or Malerie know.
* Proper dance wear: Please remember to wear proper dance attire to class. Technique days you can wear anything, but make sure it is appropriate and they you are able to dance and move in what you are wearing. Company days, Thursday’s, you MUST wear your red top with your black shorts with zebra trim. You are welcome to wear your warm-ups while you are warming up, but you will need to take them off after, so make sure you have your correct clothing on. You are welcome to wear tights as well, but it is not required. You must also have proper footwear. Socks or tights only are NOT allowed.
* Competition dates: Here are our competition dates:
                * March 24th: “Dance America” at Timpview High School in Provo.
                * April 28th: “GOtta Move Competition” at Maple Mountain High School in Spanish Fork.
                * May 5th: “Utah Valley Dance” at Payson High School in Payson.
                * May 18th: “America On Stage” at LAGOON! (We will NOT be taking our SHOW to Lagoon.)
Competition fees are $205 for all 4 competitions. The due date for competition fees to be paid in full is March 30th. You are welcome to start making payments towards it, so it isn’t so much on the date. We will also be doing the cookie dough fundraiser. It will start in February, so the profit from that can go towards your competition fees.
* Costume accessories: Last month I sent home the costume accessory list. If you need to see it again, it is up on the website. I will also be sending one home again as competitions get closer. Please note that Super Stars now need black seamless fishnet tights for SHOW. As mentioned in the email, we have had to change our SHOW costume. We love the one we have picked to replace it and there will be no additional cost to you.
Let’s keep up the hard work!! I love watching the progress of these ladies! I am so proud of you and all the hard work you are putting in! This year, our first year, is going to be great! I can’t wait until competitions…only about 12 weeks!

Registration forms: I am STILL missing registration forms. If there is one attached to this letter, PLEASE return it asap! The information on it is very important, and allows me to contact you in case of emergency, or to send out emails as needed.
P.O.D.: Our next parent observation day is December 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th. You are welcome to bring a video camera and record what we have done up to this point so they can practice over the holiday break.
Christmas break: The studio will be closed from December 19th – January 1st. Classes will resume January 3rd. (TurboKick will be on their own schedule, please check with instructors to find closed dates.) The only exception is the Combo classes. On Monday, December 19th, they will have their Christmas showcase during their regular classes. Hip hop classes also start the week we come back to class in January.
·         Boys JR CREW, ages 7 – 11 yrs: Friday’s 5 – 5:45 p.m. $30 per month, $15 per month if you have a sibling already enrolled in regular classes. Costume - $15 - $20 (will need to have plain blue jeans and white tennis shoes for competition.)
·         Boys SR CREW, ages 12 – 18 years: Friday’s 5 – 6 p.m. $35 per month, $17.50 per month if you have a sibling already enrolled in other classes. Costume - $15 - $20 (will need to have plain blue jeans and white tennis shoes for competition.)
Family discount still applies to hip hop as well.
Solos, duets, trios: I will be sending home a packet with information about competitions and such. Music should be done before Christmas break. I will let you know when it is finished and will make you copies. You are responsible for turning in your competition forms and handling your music. Also, if you are ordering a costume through me, we will need to have those finalized within the next week so I can order them with our team costumes, to help save money.
Competitions/recitals: Here are the dates for our pre-show competitions:
* April 28th: “Gotta Move Competition” held at Maple Mountain High School in Spanish Fork. (Times to be announced approximately 2 weeks before competition.)
* May 5th: “Utah Valley Dance” held at Payson High School in Payson. (Times to be announced approximately 2 weeks before competition.)
* Spring Recital: Date and location still pending.
Competition fees for pre-show teams are: $56 for Tinys and $84 for Minis, Express, Juniors and Seniors. Competition fees are due by March 30th.
Warm-ups, tees and bags: If you are looking for gifts for your dancer for Christmas or birthdays, I have a bunch of VERY CUTE items for your dancer. I have warm-ups available in EVERY size. (Some sizes are still on order, but will be here for Christmas!) I have our team t-shirts available for purchase, and I also have duffle bags and hanging costume bags that are great for keeping all your dance gear together and ready for class and competition! Warm-ups are $65 for the set, tees range from $10 - $20 depending on the size (I have adult sizes and “dad” shirts too!), hanging garment bags are $35 and duffle bags are $40. We can do personalization on warm-ups and bags. Names are $5 each. I am very sneaky! I can get your items to you without your dancer knowing! Come in and check them out. It is a great way to keep warm in the winter, and to look like a team at competition and performances! If you are interested in purchasing any of these items before Christmas, please let me know and I can get it going for you. Payment for items will be due at time of order to complete your order. We usually put one name on the bags, and up to 2 names on the warm-ups. . We can do one on the chest, and one on the pant leg. SUPER cute! I have also done the last name on one duffle bag if more than one dancer is going to share that bag. I have some in studio, some come check them out! I will be “sizing” all the girls who don’t already have warm-ups in case you want to order some. In order to receive them by Christmas, orders MUST be placed and paid for by December 9th.  You will be able to pick up your order on the morning of Christmas Eve. Pick up will NOT be available before that. Get your orders in by this week to get it in time for Christmas.
Attendance: As we wrap this year, we are also wrapping up our jazz dances! We will have learned our jazz routines before we go on Christmas break. Attendance is very important so that you are familiar with your dance before you go on break! Also, when you are a teacher’s assistant, your attendance is very important to the class you help with. Not only do your teachers rely on you, but you are receiving a financial benefit as well. Please attend every class possible. There are only a few weeks left, so please try to attend these last few so we know our dances well! You are welcome to bring a video camera the last week of class and video tape to practice at home over the break!
If you have questions, please feel free to call or email. Please note: I will be out of the office from December 19th through the 23rd. I will back in the office on the 24th to make sure you can pick up your orders for Christmas. I will not be available for calls, texts, or emails during that time. You are welcome to leave me a message and I will return your message when I return. Don’t’ forget to join our Facebook page. Many times I post things there FIRST! Thanks!

Stars information: This section is more information for our Stars Show Team company members.
* Attendance: A few of our dancers are getting close to their tardy/absence limit. I will be sending an email regarding tardies and absences this week.
* Videotaping: I am going to have someone video tape this week in company classes and then make each dancer a dvd with the routines so you can practice at home over the holiday break. PLEASE make sure you practice so when we start up again in January you are ready to go!
Let’s keep up the hard work!! I love watching the progress of these ladies! I am so proud of you and all the hard work you are putting in! This year, our first year, is going to be great! I can’t wait until competitions…
