Hair and make-up 2012-2013

(Apparently I didn't change the date on the printed paper that we passed out last night...ignore the date! That was the correct instructions! I use a template, but overlooked the date. Sorry for any confusion!)

Hair and make-up 2012, 2013:
Stars Show Team and Express, Juniors and Seniors pre-show, as well as Jr. and Sr. CREW (girls) will all have the same hair and make-up. Minis pre-show hair and make-up will be different.
Hair: This is for Express, Juniors, Seniors, Jr. hip hop (girls) and Sr. hip hop (girls) pre-show as well as Small Stars, Star Burst and Super Stars. Hair is to be pulled back, starting at the top of the ears, and brought back to the back of the head. All hair is slicked back, no bangs or “bump” in the front. Slick hair back into a pony tail and secure hair using a black pony tail holder. Secure fly-aways by using barrettes/bobby pins that match your hair color. Then hair is to be curled. (Not perm-y curly, but actually curled.) It is easiest to wet hair the top of the head thoroughly, apply gel and/or hair spray to hair, using a comb, begin at the top of the ears and part top section of hair away from bottom. Comb back into mid pony tail. After securing with a black pony tail holder, comb all fly-away hairs down and spray to hold well. Put bobby pins where needed so all hair stays back. If your costumes come with hair pieces, you will be instructed on how you are to wear them. Any head bands must be bobby pinned in place. Please make sure you bring all head pieces with you to competitions and performances.
Hair: This is for Minis pre-show only. Hair will be parted on the right side and slicked into a low pony tail. Secure with a black pony tail holder. No bangs. Hair can be left curly or straight. If hair is too short to pull it all back, then pull the top half back into a mid-head pony tail.
Make-up: Make-up for our Minis pre-show class is simple: they will only need a little blush and lip gloss. They are welcome to wear mascara, but it is not mandatory. The blush you will need is Cover Girl brand and the color is Plumberry Glow, #140. You can purchase it at any store that sells CG brand.
Make-up: Make-up for Express, Juniors, Seniors, Jr. hip hop (girls) and Sr. hip hop (girls) pre-show as well as Small Stars, Star Burst and Super Stars will consist of base to match skin tone, blush (I will have some at the competitions, but if you would like to purchase your own, we are using Cover Girl brand in the color Plum Berry #140), eye shadow (white or cream base color, with deep blue for the accent color on your lower eye lid. We suggest: Cover Girl Sapphire Sparkle #610), mascara, black eye liner applied to bottom eye lids, false eye lashes (ALL dancers, except Minis, MUST have false eye lashes), and lip stick (we will be using Maybelline Red Revival #645. ALL dancers will wear the same colors. We highly suggest you purchase your own lip stick, but we will have a few tubes of “community” lipstick if you choose not to purchase your own.) We will be reapplying lipstick between dances, so it is easiest for you if you have your own, but it is not required. And for sanitary reasons, it is best to have your own and not share. You may want to pack Chap Stick. If your dancer has dry lips, lip stick will crack and not stick. Having some sort of lip balm to moisturize will help the lip stick last longer. Lip gloss will be used for lyrical dances. Hair needs to be 100% done and the majority of makeup needs to be done before arriving at competitions. If you would like to do your makeup at competition, you will need to arrive 20 – 30 minutes earlier than designated on the schedule. NO NAIL POLISH or toe nail polish! (If your dancer has acrylic nails, French tip is ok. No glitter toes.) THE BEST false eye lash adhesive I have found you can get at Walmart. It is Revlon brand and it’s called Precision Lash Adhesive. This really is the best eyelash glue.
The CREW boys hip hop: Hair will be how you would normally do it. NO Makeup! J
A few tips:
* NO jewelry, except our company rhinestone earrings! (If you did not order some, I have a few pairs left to purchase for $6. If you have your own “diamond” or rhinestone earrings, those will be fine. ALL Stars must wear the company earrings.) NO necklaces, bracelets, rings, or anything else (Unless it is part of your costumes. Some costumes may have head pieces, necklaces, or bracelets.)
* ONLY apply the listed colors for blush and lip stick. We will all be wearing the same colors of these items. If you are not comfortable sharing, please purchase your own items, but they must be the same colors. (Blush – Cover Girl Plum Berry #140: ALL dancers; Lip stick – Maybelline Red Revival #645: Minis, Express, Juniors, Seniors, Jr. hip hop, Sr. hip hop, Small Stars, Star Burst, Super Stars; Lip gloss – any color, Tinys. Eye shadow – Cover Girl Sapphire Sparkle #610: ALL dancers.)
* Hair and most makeup need to be done before arriving to the competitions. Please bring extra bobby pins, makeup, curling iron and hair spray for touch ups. I suggest getting a separate makeup bag for your dance make up and keep it with their costumes. That way you will always have it and know where it is. You can just grab it and go when it is time.
* When getting dressed for competitions, you will need to put on your tights (NO underwear!), and then your warm-ups or blue jeans. If necessary wear the bra you will need and then your black “Diva” team shirt. If you don’t have a team shirt, any plain black shirt or tank top will work. Bring ALL your costumes and makeup with you and meet in the dressing room at the designated time.
* You may want to bring a blanket or pillow for your dancer. There can be long breaks between dances and awards so sometimes it is nice to have a something for them to lie down on. Also, a coloring book and crayons for the younger ones is great to have.
* NO eating or drinking in costumes!! They can get ruined and stained. They are NOT easily replaceable, and will be at extra cost to you to replace if they are ruined.
* Follow time schedules closely, even try to be 5 minutes early! It would be terrible if you missed your dance! Competitions do not wait for dancers. DO NOT be late!! Competitions can get ahead of schedule. To find out where our dressing room is, ask the admissions table when you come in and they can tell you where it is. I will send an time schedule 1 – 2 weeks before the competition so you know how to plan.
*ALL teacher assistants need to be there for the classes they help with too, not just their own dances. You will need to be in the dressing room with your class, unless you are performing, and then when you are done you will need to join us. Being with your class is part of your responsibility.
* We will need some parent helpers in the dressing rooms. If you are not available to help your dancer, there will be helpers there to assist. Also, often times we share our dressing room with other teams so space is limited. Please try not to bring younger children in the dressing room. Young boys and men are NOT allowed in the dressing room. Our boys’ team will have a separate place to dress. The fewer bodies in the dressing room, the better.
* If you have any questions, please find either me or Emily Miller. If you need to reach me the day of competition, please call me on my cell: 801-836-6167. Please note: I will be very busy the day of competitions and may not be available to answer the phone at all times. Please leave me a message and I will return your call as soon as I can. January newsletter 2013

January 2013
It’s a New Year! Hope you all had a great holiday season, and are surviving the cold! Time to get back to work! J
Tuition: Remember that tuition is due the first class of the month. I really hate charging late fees, so get your payment in on time. Please talk to me if you have a financial situation arise. I am more than willing to break payments down. Late fees of $10 per week are assessed after the 10th of the month (the 12th for this month only).  Please bring cash or make checks payable to Diva’s Dance Studio or Andrea Olsen.
Attendance: Please make sure dancers attend all classes possible. (I know most of the time they do anyways!) We are only a few months away from competition time and we will be moving quickly on our routines to get them polished and ready to go! We will also be having extra practices in a gym so that we can get the feel of performing on a gym floor. I will send out dates and times as soon as I get them scheduled. I try hard to keep them on regular class days, but they may vary a bit. We will also have a dress rehearsal where we practice in our costumes.
Costumes: Costumes have been ordered! As soon as they arrive, I will send them home with your dancer. (Costumes will be sent home around the middle of March.) When you do receive your costumes, please try them on your dancer to make sure they fit correctly, and let me know of any issues immediately. Also, get your accessories ordered ASAP!
No class: Martin Luther Day is January 21st. We will not be having class that day. (See calendar) All other classes will be as normal.
Hair and makeup class: I will be holding a hair and makeup class. Minis will be from 6:45 – 7 pm right after your class. I will go over hair and makeup as well as answer any questions. ALL pre-show and Stars Show Team will be from 7 – 8 pm. I will give a demonstration on how to do the competition hair and makeup, as well as give a sheet out with the colors and information. I encourage ALL dancers in pre-show and Stars to attend, as well as 1 parent. I will be available to answer any questions as well.
Costumes and accessories: All costume money not paid in full will now begin accruing interest of 10% of the balance due per week. If you would like to work out a payment plan, please speak with me and we will work something out. Also, I sent home a few weeks ago the costume accessory lists. If you need another one, please let me know and I can get you another one. These items are required for competition. You do not have to order them from the website on the paper, but if you do it ensures that you receive the correct items. If you have questions, or need another form, please let me know.
Calendar: A January calendar is attached to this letter. It will also be posted on the website and hung in the studio. If you ever lose your newsletter or calendar, check the studio board, or the website: www.divasdancestudio.com.
POD: Our next parent observation day will be February 25th – March 2nd.
Hip hop pre-show: It’s time to register for our hip hop classes! These are pre-show competition classes. There is a small increase in tuition and an extra costume and competition fees associated with these classes. In these classes they will be taught hip hop technique as well as 1 hip hop routine that they will perform at competitions as well as the recital. We do not have the price of the costumes yet. We did a census last year and many people like the idea of combining the boys and the girls together for these classes, so that is what we did! Our boys and girls hip hop classes will be together this year! We think that will be an awesome opportunity to have the classes together. Classes will be as follows: Sr. CREW (ages 12 – 18 yrs, open to boys AND girls): Saturdays 11 am – noon; Jr. CREW (ages 6 – 11 yrs, open to boys AND girls): Saturdays Noon – 1 pm. These classes will be taught by Allie Olsen, our new technique teacher. Registration for these classes is open, and there is a maximum number open for these classes, 12 dancers per class. If you would like to register, please call, email or talk with me to register your dancer. If you have any questions concerning hip hop, please don’t hesitate to ask. Classes will start January 12th and will run until the end of May.
Competition dates: Here are our competition dates and locations for this year! (I do not have our spring recital date yet, though.)

Competition fees are due by March 2nd.(Star Show Team must make ½ payment by February 2nd , as per contract.) We will be doing a cookie dough fundraiser starting in first of February to help cover competition fees. (Fundraisers are always optional, they only benefit YOU! More info to come home soon. ) As we get closer to the dates, I will send home detailed times and information.
Stars Show Team: I will be emailing your tardies and absences to you to let you know where you are. Please remember to wear your company outfits to your company classes and appropriate dancewear to your technique classes. (Sweats and hoodies are not appropriate. The teacher needs to be able to see your body alignment. Please wear dancer wear under your sweats and remove the sweats after warming up. If it is a problem, we will have you wear your company outfits to technique as well.
We are nearing our first competition, only a few weeks away! Our first competition will be in St. George! (As per popular demand!) Attendance is VERY important! Especially when there are few holidays on Monday’s and we will not have class. We will be moving quickly to finish our routines. Lyricals should be finished this week or next and then we will move on to SHOW.
There will be a hair and make-up class on January 22nd. It is MANDATORY for ALL Stars Show Team members and 1 parent. I know it may conflict with Young Women’s, I try hard to NOT schedule things on nights when it may. This is the night that will work best for dancers and parents.
½ deposit on your competition fees are due by February 2nd. In the contract it stated that the full amount be due by the 2nd, but I am giving you an extension so you can participate in the fundraiser if you choose. The deposit must be made or your dancer will not be allowed to compete in the first competition. If a balance is owing on costumes or competition fees, your dancer may not be allowed to compete until your account is brought current. If you need to arrange a payment plan, please talk with me.

I am so proud of how hard the dancers are working this year…I have a feeling its going to be a really GREAT year!! As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to email, call, text or talk with me after class. Thanks!
