You will receive one cd per family. You are welcome to download it to your computer and make copies of it if you need to. If you need me to get you a replacement cd, there is a $2 per cd charge. Having dancers be able to practice at home with their music is very important. Please make sure you have their disc available so they can practice.
Pre-show: Pre-show classes will be starting their routines this week and next. Please remember that attendance is so important as we start getting into our routines and learning formations and such.

Listed below are the price of the costumes. You are welcome to start making payments toward your costumes now or you can wait until the deadline. The accessories for costumes are also listed below. September newsletter

Did summer seem like it was on fast forward for you too? Here we are, back to school and back to dance! Here’s what to expect: every month you will receive a newsletter and calendar; you will be emailed statement when requested, or if your account becomes delinquent; you will be emailed with updates; you will be kept notified of important dates and/or deadlines. I will make sure you are kept in the know of what’s going on. If you happen to misplace your paper copy of the newsletter or calendar you can always find it on our website: www.divasdancestudio.com or become a member of our Facebook page.
Packet contents: In this packet is your newsletter, the “Student Oath and Commitment” page (which explains the qualities I believe dancers should have and the commitments I ask of the dancers), a “Rules of the dancer room” page (which gives guidelines on proper dress and etiquette in the dance room), and the registration form to rill out and return. (If there is not registration form, I already have one filled out for you for this year.) The only paper from this packet that I need back is the registration form. Please have it filled out and returned by the end of September.
What do I owe right now?: Everyone will owe September tuition, as well as the registration fee ($25 for one student OR $40 for two or more students per family), and the costume security fee ($25 for pre-show dancers, $50 for Stars Show Team dancers). If you need to split up the payments, you can pay half now and the second half at the 2nd half of the month.
Tuition: Monthly tuition is due the first class of each month or by the 10th of the month. After the 10th, a late fee of $10 per week will be added to your account. If your account is past due after 2 months, your student may not be allowed to attend class until your account is made current. Return checks are subject to a $25 fee per check. After 2 returned checks you will be required to bring cash for the rest of the dance year. As of now I only accept cash and checks. If you run into a problem, please talk to me so we can work out a payment plan. You are always welcome to add additional payments with your tuition to be paid towards costume/competitions fees. Tuition will be taken out of payments first, then any additional money will be put towards other items. When writing checks, please write your dancers name on the memo line, especially if last names are different. Please make checks to Divas Dance Studio. If you are sending in cash, please try to put it in an envelope with your dancers name on it, or put a sticky note on it with the name. This will ensure proper credit.
Attendance: I cannot stress how important attendance is. Your dancer needs to be to every class possible. If your dancer is going to miss, please let us know. It truly makes a difference in the materials we teach. Even when one student misses it changes the materials we tach. We understand there will be times when dancers are ill, family things come up, and people go on vacation! We closely follow the school district in days off, so this should help keep absences down. A call, a text, telling us know when you pick our dancer up from class, or an email will help us. Stars Show Team company members, please refer to the attendance policy.
Parent observation days (POD): This policy has worked so well in the past so we will stick with it. I ask that parents not stay for the entire class of their dancer. i feel that dancers, in general, do better when they have to rely on themselves and does not ave a parent there to distract them. Many time dancers will be paying more attention to their parent or siblings to see if they are watching than paying attention to what’s going on in class... So that’s why the parent observation days were implemented. POD will normally be held on the last day of every other month. I will allow parents to come and watch for he entire class to see the progress their dancer as made. The first POD is the week of October 21st - 25th. I will never keep a parent out if you really want to stay, but dancers, especially younger ones, do better without a parent. If your child is struggling, you may be asked to stay, you will be notified if this is the case.
Pick-up and drop-off: Since we are located in a residential area, please be courteous to the houses and traffic around the studio. Do not park in or block other driveways, not eve if you think you are only going to run in and grab your dancer. Please be courteous to others that may be picking up or dropping off their dancer. Watch for children, whether dancers going in to coming out of the studio or children that may be at play. Please DO NOT speed down the street. I know parking can be crazy, but be patient and courteous to each other. Also, please be prompt when picking up your dancer. I and the other teachers cannot be responsible for watching dancers after class is over. ALL Mini’s will need to be picked up by a parent or older sibling. They will NOT be released unless an older, responsible party is there to get them. This is for their safety. All other dancers will be excused when their class is over. They can wait inside until you get here. It is especially important to pick up on time as the weather gets colder. To aid in the drop-off/pick-up process, you can drop your dancers off 5 mins early. Just make sure they understand to come in and quietly sit until the class starts.
Referrals: Thanks to all those who have referred new students this year! We continue to grow and get better every year, mostly because of the amazing parents we have! Registration will be open until October 1st, but a few classes are already full so make sure your referral calls quickly! remember, in order to get your FREE/discounted months for referrals, they MUST mention your dancers name when contacting me. If you have referred someone, your FREE/discounted months start in October.
What dance clothes does my dancer need?: Dance wear can be a tank top with dance pants, dance shorts, a leotard and tights, a biketard, etc.  We need to be able to see the alignment of the dancers‘ body. No baggy pants or t-shirts/sweatshirts. All dancers need to have are feet or dance shoes. NO SOCKS or tights without shoes will be allowed. It is dangerous. Your dancer may be asked to sit if she does not ave correct footwear. I would recommend getting either pink ballet slippers from Payless. As far as other classes, we will have specific shoes for competition, but any dance shoe will work for class. (All dancers will have nude foot-undeez for their lyrical dances. Those are a safe bet.) If you have any questions concerning dance wear or shoes, please talk to me. We also have t-shirts and warm-ups, but they are completely optional (except the Stars Show Team).
Teachers: We are excited about our teachers this year! For our Express, Juniors, and Seniors pre-show we have our very own Kylie Turpin and Shaylee Brimhall teaching! These two dancers will be team teaching this year. They are both dancers that have danced with Diva’s before. I am excited for what they will bring to the table this year. Also teaching this year, we have Jada Poulsen. She is new to our studio but not new to dancing. She comes to us from Maple Mountain Drill! Her technique is superb and I know she will push our tech classes! Look for their bios soon on our website. Feel free to come meet them!
SHOW: We are doing a little different thing with our SHOW this year... we are joining our pre-show and Stars Show Team together!! I cannot tell you how excited about this I am!!!! (Do all the exclamation marks give it away?) Our SHOW theme this year is... “Get Your Game On!” We are doing a sports theme! Each class will have a different sport and will be spotlighted. It is going to be so fun!
Music: Each family will receive 1 cd with their music on it. If you need a replacement cd, you will be charged $2. It is SO VERY important to have your dancers’ music at home to practice with. You are welcome to make copies or rip it to your computer. Just please make sure they have it available to practice with.
Hip hop master class: We have been invited to attend a hip hop master class. I is open to any dancer interested in learning from professional hip hop instructors from all over the US. The date is October 12th, from 8 am - approx. 5 pm. The cost is $95 for the day ($110 if paid after october 1st). Any dancer, pre-show or Stars Show Team, interested in participating needs to get a registration from from me. If you have questions, please feel free to ask.

I am so excited for this year. I am looking forward to working with ALL the dancers and watching them progress. If you have any questions, I am always happy to discuss anything with you. If you need more than a few minutes, please contact me to schedule a time that would work, but most things can be discussed between classes, after class, via text, email, or phone calls. Thanks for the opportunity to teach your daughter my love for dance.

Summer classes: The LONG awaited summer schedule is attached to the newsletter! Get registered today before classes fill up. We recommend taking some form of summer classes to help from losing your flexibility and technique. Also, taking summer classes would be recommended, especially if you are interested in trying out for the Stars team next season. I highly recommend taking technique AND ballet! Tumbling is also a great idea too! J The fall schedule will be out by the end of this month!
SOF: For those doing SOF (Stadium of Fire), the remainder of your SOF money is due by May 24th. Here are the practice days and times: Main dancers will be on Monday’s and Thursdays from 7:15 – 8:30 pm; Junior dancers will be Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30 – 11 am. Tentatively classes will start June 4th. Emails will be sent to let you know for sure.
Parade: We will be participating in the Lehi Roundup Days parade! It will be on Saturday, June 29th. Our “minis” will be riding in the boat/truck and can choose either of their costumes to wear. They must have 1 parent to sit with them in the boat or truck bed. Express, Juniors, Seniors, Small Stars, Star Burst, Super Stars will be dancing in the parade. The cost for the “Minis” is $5, this will help cover the entrance fees into the parade. Cost for the other ages is $45. This will include your parade uniform (which can also double as a regular dance class outfit) and tuition to learn the parade routine. Practice for the parade routine will be on Tuesdays from 7:15 – 8 pm. (I know this may interfere with Young Women’s…I hope it will not keep our older girls from doing the parade. Rehearsals are only for the month of June.) The theme this year for the parade is “You Saw WHAT?” I have been thinking of some really fun ideas… If you would like your dancer to participate, please let me know by Friday, May 10th so I can get them measured for their outfit. Payments for the participation will be due by May 17th.
If you have any questions, please call, email or text me. If you lose your newsletter, you can always check on our website: www.divasdancestudio.com. Our Facebook page also has current info on it as well. Thanks!

We will be adjusting classes on a per dancer basis. These dates are tentative and may change. You will be notified if there is a change in dates. A tryout form must be filled out and signed by a parent BEFORE a dancer may tryout. I will have forms at the tryout. You must also understand and be willing to follow the Stars Show Team rules.

6:15 pm – AWARDS! ALL dancers (except Minis) are required to attend awards.

Notes:
·         Dancers must arrive at least 1 hour prior to their first routine time with hair and make-up done. If you need to finish hair or make-up, then you need to arrive earlier than 1 hour before your performance time! (Ex.: Super Stars must arrive at school NO later than 8:00 am.) Dancers need to be IN dressing room 1 hour prior to their performance time and getting in their costume. Once dancer is dressed, please do not take them from the dressing room. As soon as we are ready to get the dancers together, we need them easily accessible and not try to chase them or find them in the audience.
·         ALL dancers must attend awards. (Minis do NOT need to attend awards, but we will hand out their trophy within a little bit of finishing their routine, during the “lunch break” if you can stay for that.)
·         Stars Show Team is being asked to arrive BY 9 am and to sit in the stands and cheer on the pre-show SHOW. After they are finished with their routine, meet in the dressing room to get ready for your SHOW.
·         You will need to wear: your tan tights (NO underwear), a black team shirt or a plain black shirt or tank top, and your team warm-ups. We will be wearing our warm-ups for awards too. If you do not have warm-ups, then the black shirt with blue jeans. (I do have warm-ups available for purchase.)
·         Please make sure you have ALL costumes and props before leaving for competition.
·         Competition is at Salem Hills High School in Salem, 150 N Sky Hawk Blvd. Please leave yourself plenty of travel time. Mapquest the address if you need to. (Mapquest says it takes about 37 minutes, so please plan accordingly.) Give yourself plenty of time to get to the school. You should be in the dressing room 1 hour before, not in the parking lot or still driving… Directions: traveling south take Exit 257A Spanish Fork Main Street Exit. At light, turn left (south) onto Main Street. Stay on this road for about 5 miles.l you will ender Salem City limits. At 400 N (1st and only light in Salem, Burger King will be on your left), turn right (now heading west). High School will be on your left (south side) in about 1 half mile.
·         No admission fee for dancers, costume is “proof of entrance”. Spectators admission prices: $4 per person, children 5 and under free. (2 day pass $8, only for those with soloists who are competing Friday, and those attending Friday night.) (We do not recommend bringing small children. They are hard to handle and getting them to “sit” for a long period of time is difficult. And having them in the dressing room is difficult too. We understand if you do not have other options. Just know that it can be difficult.)
·         We will be competing in the main gym. Our awards will also be in the main gym. We will not be facing different directions. All dances will face the same direction.
·         We do not know yet where our dressing room is. When you come in you can ask at the admission table and they will tell you. We will keep all costumes, bags and props in the dressing room. We must also keep it clean and in good order. If someone is found vandalizing or being destructive, you will be charged a minimum of $75 for cleaning and repair.
