September newsletter

Did summer seem like it was on fast forward for you too? Here we are, back to school and back to dance! Here’s what to expect: every month you will receive a newsletter and calendar; you will be emailed statement when requested, or if your account becomes delinquent; you will be emailed with updates; you will be kept notified of important dates and/or deadlines. I will make sure you are kept in the know of what’s going on. If you happen to misplace your paper copy of the newsletter or calendar you can always find it on our website: www.divasdancestudio.com or become a member of our Facebook page.
Packet contents: In this packet is your newsletter, the “Student Oath and Commitment” page (which explains the qualities I believe dancers should have and the commitments I ask of the dancers), a “Rules of the dancer room” page (which gives guidelines on proper dress and etiquette in the dance room), and the registration form to rill out and return. (If there is not registration form, I already have one filled out for you for this year.) The only paper from this packet that I need back is the registration form. Please have it filled out and returned by the end of September.
What do I owe right now?: Everyone will owe September tuition, as well as the registration fee ($25 for one student OR $40 for two or more students per family), and the costume security fee ($25 for pre-show dancers, $50 for Stars Show Team dancers). If you need to split up the payments, you can pay half now and the second half at the 2nd half of the month.
Tuition: Monthly tuition is due the first class of each month or by the 10th of the month. After the 10th, a late fee of $10 per week will be added to your account. If your account is past due after 2 months, your student may not be allowed to attend class until your account is made current. Return checks are subject to a $25 fee per check. After 2 returned checks you will be required to bring cash for the rest of the dance year. As of now I only accept cash and checks. If you run into a problem, please talk to me so we can work out a payment plan. You are always welcome to add additional payments with your tuition to be paid towards costume/competitions fees. Tuition will be taken out of payments first, then any additional money will be put towards other items. When writing checks, please write your dancers name on the memo line, especially if last names are different. Please make checks to Divas Dance Studio. If you are sending in cash, please try to put it in an envelope with your dancers name on it, or put a sticky note on it with the name. This will ensure proper credit.
Attendance: I cannot stress how important attendance is. Your dancer needs to be to every class possible. If your dancer is going to miss, please let us know. It truly makes a difference in the materials we teach. Even when one student misses it changes the materials we tach. We understand there will be times when dancers are ill, family things come up, and people go on vacation! We closely follow the school district in days off, so this should help keep absences down. A call, a text, telling us know when you pick our dancer up from class, or an email will help us. Stars Show Team company members, please refer to the attendance policy.
Parent observation days (POD): This policy has worked so well in the past so we will stick with it. I ask that parents not stay for the entire class of their dancer. i feel that dancers, in general, do better when they have to rely on themselves and does not ave a parent there to distract them. Many time dancers will be paying more attention to their parent or siblings to see if they are watching than paying attention to what’s going on in class... So that’s why the parent observation days were implemented. POD will normally be held on the last day of every other month. I will allow parents to come and watch for he entire class to see the progress their dancer as made. The first POD is the week of October 21st - 25th. I will never keep a parent out if you really want to stay, but dancers, especially younger ones, do better without a parent. If your child is struggling, you may be asked to stay, you will be notified if this is the case.
Pick-up and drop-off: Since we are located in a residential area, please be courteous to the houses and traffic around the studio. Do not park in or block other driveways, not eve if you think you are only going to run in and grab your dancer. Please be courteous to others that may be picking up or dropping off their dancer. Watch for children, whether dancers going in to coming out of the studio or children that may be at play. Please DO NOT speed down the street. I know parking can be crazy, but be patient and courteous to each other. Also, please be prompt when picking up your dancer. I and the other teachers cannot be responsible for watching dancers after class is over. ALL Mini’s will need to be picked up by a parent or older sibling. They will NOT be released unless an older, responsible party is there to get them. This is for their safety. All other dancers will be excused when their class is over. They can wait inside until you get here. It is especially important to pick up on time as the weather gets colder. To aid in the drop-off/pick-up process, you can drop your dancers off 5 mins early. Just make sure they understand to come in and quietly sit until the class starts.
Referrals: Thanks to all those who have referred new students this year! We continue to grow and get better every year, mostly because of the amazing parents we have! Registration will be open until October 1st, but a few classes are already full so make sure your referral calls quickly! remember, in order to get your FREE/discounted months for referrals, they MUST mention your dancers name when contacting me. If you have referred someone, your FREE/discounted months start in October.
What dance clothes does my dancer need?: Dance wear can be a tank top with dance pants, dance shorts, a leotard and tights, a biketard, etc.  We need to be able to see the alignment of the dancers‘ body. No baggy pants or t-shirts/sweatshirts. All dancers need to have are feet or dance shoes. NO SOCKS or tights without shoes will be allowed. It is dangerous. Your dancer may be asked to sit if she does not ave correct footwear. I would recommend getting either pink ballet slippers from Payless. As far as other classes, we will have specific shoes for competition, but any dance shoe will work for class. (All dancers will have nude foot-undeez for their lyrical dances. Those are a safe bet.) If you have any questions concerning dance wear or shoes, please talk to me. We also have t-shirts and warm-ups, but they are completely optional (except the Stars Show Team).
Teachers: We are excited about our teachers this year! For our Express, Juniors, and Seniors pre-show we have our very own Kylie Turpin and Shaylee Brimhall teaching! These two dancers will be team teaching this year. They are both dancers that have danced with Diva’s before. I am excited for what they will bring to the table this year. Also teaching this year, we have Jada Poulsen. She is new to our studio but not new to dancing. She comes to us from Maple Mountain Drill! Her technique is superb and I know she will push our tech classes! Look for their bios soon on our website. Feel free to come meet them!
SHOW: We are doing a little different thing with our SHOW this year... we are joining our pre-show and Stars Show Team together!! I cannot tell you how excited about this I am!!!! (Do all the exclamation marks give it away?) Our SHOW theme this year is... “Get Your Game On!” We are doing a sports theme! Each class will have a different sport and will be spotlighted. It is going to be so fun!
Music: Each family will receive 1 cd with their music on it. If you need a replacement cd, you will be charged $2. It is SO VERY important to have your dancers’ music at home to practice with. You are welcome to make copies or rip it to your computer. Just please make sure they have it available to practice with.
Hip hop master class: We have been invited to attend a hip hop master class. I is open to any dancer interested in learning from professional hip hop instructors from all over the US. The date is October 12th, from 8 am - approx. 5 pm. The cost is $95 for the day ($110 if paid after october 1st). Any dancer, pre-show or Stars Show Team, interested in participating needs to get a registration from from me. If you have questions, please feel free to ask.

I am so excited for this year. I am looking forward to working with ALL the dancers and watching them progress. If you have any questions, I am always happy to discuss anything with you. If you need more than a few minutes, please contact me to schedule a time that would work, but most things can be discussed between classes, after class, via text, email, or phone calls. Thanks for the opportunity to teach your daughter my love for dance.
