April newsletter


April newsletter 2012:
We are down to our 2 final months! I’m so impressed with how hard your kids have been working! They have been so much fun to get to know.
Attendance: There are only a few weeks until our competition. Attendance is crucial! Please be to every class as we are trying to finish our routines and get them clean and ready to go! If a dance misses the last 2 classes before competition, he or she may not be permitted to compete at the upcoming competition.
Tuition: Tuition is due this week, or by the 10th. We will be out of the studio, so if you being it the week we return to classes, no late fee will be added, instead the late fees will be added after the 20th. (Please make checks payable to Andrea Olsen.) Statements can be made available by emailing: dancerandylynn@gmail.com . Also, if your phone, address, or email has changed, please send changes to that email as well. I will be sending out competition schedules by email as I get it. 
P.O.D.: Our next, and FINAL, parent observation day is April 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th, and 27th.
Spring break: There will be NO class the week of April 9th – 13th. Enjoy a nice (and hopefully warmer) Spring Break! Don’t forget to practice!!
Utah Jazz Game: Our Stars Show Team has been invited to be the opening show for the Utah Jazz on April 26th! This is such an honor for our team and studio! If you would like to attend this Jazz game and support our studio, you can purchase discount tickets through me! Upper bowl tickets are $25/ticket or $40/ticket and LOWER bowl tickets are only $66/ticket or $77/ticket. You can purchase as many tickets as you would like. We need to achieve 100 ticket sales to make our performance happen. I will need your ticket orders and payment by April 16th. If you like to attend Jazz games, but feel they are expensive for regular ticket prices, this is a great way for your family to see the game! The Utah Jazz will be playing the Portland Trailblazers. Tip-off is at 6 pm, our dancers will perform at 5:30 pm. If you purchase a ticket through our promo, you get to arrive early (doors open for us at 4:30 pm) and you will get to watch the performance from the first 10 rows of the arena. After the performance, you will be directed to find the seat you purchased. Please let me know how many tickets you would like. When you purchase 5 tickets, you get the 6th FREE (upper bowl only)! If you have questions about this, please feel free to ask. You can email or call with your ticket purchase.
Competitions: I have the final dates of competitions:
* April 28th Maple Mountain High School. (Teams that are competing: Tiny’s, Mini’s, Express, Juniors, Seniors, Mamas, Jr. Diva’s hip hop, Sr. Diva’s hip hop, The CREW Jr. hip hop boys, The CREW Sr. hip hop boys, ALL Stars Teams. Times will be sent home a week or so before the competition. I will also email the schedule and post it on the website.)
* May 5th Payson High School. (Teams that are competing: Tiny’s, Mini’s, Express, Juniors, Seniors, Jr. Diva’s hip hop, Sr. Diva’s hip hop, The CREW Jr. hip hop boys, The CREW Sr. hip hop boys, ALL Stars Teams. Times TBA)
* May 14th: Stars Show Team Spring Showcase, Willowcreek Middle School: I have finally solidified the recital dates. The Stars Show team will be on May 14th. Doors open at 6:15 pm. The show will start at 6:45 pm and the show will end approximately 8:30 pm. Our combo classes will be performing this night as well. Any solos, duets, or trios that would like to perform as well, please let me know ASAP. (No Monday classes.)
* May 15th: Pre-show Spring Showcare, WIllowcreek Middle School:
The pre-show teams and combo classes will on May 15th. Doors open at 6:15 pm. Show starts at 6:45 pm and will end approximately 8:30 pm.  Any solos, duets, or trio that would like to perform as well, please let me know ASAP. Both recitals are FREE, so anyone is welcome to attend both shows! I will send home the order of performances. (No Tuesday classes.)
We are looking for sponsors to put in our program. If you know of a business that would like to be featured in our program, please let me know. Cost is $50 and will feature the company name in the program, as well as being mentioned throughout the evening.
Please put these dates down on your calendar. I do not have times yet, but will post times on the website and email them out as soon as they become available, usually 1 – 2 weeks before the competition.
Pictures: We will be doing studio pictures during regular class times the week of May 7 – 11th. They will be “glamour” shots. Hair does not have to be done in “competition” style. I would recommend make-up, but you don’t have to do the heavy “competition” make-up. Every student will take a picture, even if you aren’t ordering pictures. Megan Wintle will be doing our pictures again. We are delighted she is able to do them again. We will have order forms in the May newsletter, but we will also have some available at the studio for the day of pictures. Save the dates, and more info to follow in the May newsletter. Stars will also be doing an outdoor photo shoot on Saturday, May 12th. More info in the May newsletter. Please note: you will NOT be allowed to bring your own camera into the studio to take your own pictures. Prices and packages will be sent home in a few weeks.
Competition fees, recital fees: All competition fees should have been paid off by March 30th. Your recital fee is due with April tuition. Any and all fees are now subject to a 20% financing fee per week until paid in full.
Saturday practices and extra practices: Please be aware that we have scheduled extra practices for our pre-show team to get ready for competitions! Times are as follows:
Tuesday, April 17th: Minis & Express 4 – 5:30 pm; Junior & Senior 5:30 – 7 pm; Minis/Express/Juniors/Seniors SHOW 7 – 8:45 pm. (dress rehearsal, bring ALL costumes and accessories.)
Monday, April 23rd: Tinys 4 – 4:45 pm; Mini/Express/Juniors/Seniors SHOW 4:45 – 6:45 pm; ALL hip hop classes (boys and girls) 6:45 – 8:15 pm; Mamas 8:15 – 9 pm. (Dress rehearsal, bring all costumes and accessories.) All combo classes are regular time and location.
These practices are mandatory. All combo classes will have their regular class time at the studio. I will also need help from parents in our SHOW routine behind the backdrop for our pre-show dancers. There should be enough that no one has to do it all the time. Let’s give everyone a chance to watch the SHOW by volunteering to help out once. (It really is easy.) I only need about 2 – 3 parents behind the backdrop for each performance this year.
We will also be having a make-up class for the hip hop classes that were cancelled over Easter/Spring break. Times are as follows: April 21st: Sr. CREW boys 9 – 10 am; Jr. CREW boys 10 – 10:45 am; Sr. girls hip hop 10:45 – 11:45 am; Jr. girls hip hop 11:45 am – 12:30 pm
Summer and fall classes:
We are working on getting the schedule up for summer and next season. Summer classes run June and July (with August off), and fall classes start in September. Try-outs for the Stars team will be in August. ALL current members must try out each year. No one will be automatically placed on a team. Watch for the schedules soon.
SOF: The remainder of your SOF money is due by May 18th.
Warm-ups, t-shirts, and duffle bags: You can still order your Diva’s swag! If you would like to see what we have, come on in and I would be happy to show you…We’ve got warm-ups for your dancer AND mom’s (great way to travel to and from competitions); t-shirts for all ages, dancers and the siblings of dancers to show support; cute v-neck tees or regular tees for moms; and even MEN’s tees so dad’s can show support too!! Come check them out! J Tees start at just $10 and go from there, warm-ups are $65 for the set, duffle bags are a great way to keep all your dancers stuff together and are just $40. We also have hanging costume bags for $35. These are great to have for competitions!! Get your early to make sure we have the sizes you need. We have a few gently used items that are for sale at a lower price than new. If you are interested in these items, let me know. Also, if you have gently used items you would like to re-sale, let me know.

Stars information: This section is more information for our Stars Show Team company members.
* Attendance: A few of our dancers are getting close to their tardy/absence limit. Please remember that after your 4th tardy or absence, you will be counseled. After one more, you will not be allowed to compete in our first competition, as per the contract. A few dancers are right on the 4 tardy/absence mark. Please watch your attendance, especially so close to our competitions.
* Proper dance wear: Please remember to wear proper dance attire to class. Technique days you can wear anything, but make sure it is appropriate and they you are able to dance and move in what you are wearing. Company days, Thursday’s, you MUST wear your red top with your black shorts with zebra trim. If you DO NOT wear your practice outfit on Thursday’s, or wear only a part of it, you will receive a tardy for each week that you don’t wear it. If you need a new practice outfit, you can purchase one for $25. You are welcome to wear your warm-ups while you are warming up, but you will need to take them off after, so make sure you have your correct clothing on. You are welcome to wear tights as well, but it is not required. You must also have proper footwear. Socks or tights only are NOT allowed.
*Utah Jazz game: Here are more details about the Jazz game: ALL Stars dancers MUST meet at the studio by 3:30 pm with hair and make-up DONE. (You may need to pull your dancer from school early to make sure her hair and make-up is done on time.) Please wear your SHOW costume under your warm-ups. You may want to bring a shirt and underwear to wear under your warm-ups after we dance so you don’t have to sit in your costume and tights for the whole game. You should be able to bring in your duffle bag, but your hanging costume bag won’t be allowed in (you don’t need your hanging bag anyway). I DO want you to wear your warm-ups for the whole game, though. Make sure you bring your bottoms to your SHOW costume! We will leave the studio TOGETHER by 3:45 pm and carpool to the stadium. You may need to pay for parking. ALL dancers will need to help carry in props. Supers will carry their chair, and Star burst will help carry the boxes in, along with their canes. Parents, if you can help carry props, too that would be great! We will walk together as a group to the North side of the building to door #1. After we go in the dancers will be taken to get ready and spectators will be shown to their places where they will watch the performance. After the performance, you will find your seats for the rest of the game. I am not sure what we will do with the props, but we will figure it out. You will be responsible for hanging onto your bags throughout the game. I don’t know if they will have a place to store them or not. You will want to bring them to keep your costume and change of clothes in, though. They will fit under your seat. Remember that the Jazz game is on a Thursday, so it replaces our regular company day. It is also only 2 days before our next competition. As we get closer, there may be more info to pass along, so as soon as I find out more info, I’ll make sure to pass it along.
* Competition dates: Here are our remaining competition dates:
                * April 28th: “Gotta Move Competition” at Maple Mountain High School in Spanish Fork. Time TBA
                * May 5th: “Utah Valley Dance” at Payson High School in Payson. Time TBA
                * May 14th: Stars Show Team Spring Showcase at Willowcreek Middle School. Doors open at 6:15 pm, performances start at 6:45 pm. Show ending approximately at 8:30 pm.
                * May 18th: “America On Stage” at LAGOON! (We will NOT be taking our SHOW to Lagoon.) Time TBA. I’m trying to find out more info concerning Lagoon…I’ll let you know as soon as I know more.
*Pictures: We will be doing our team pictures in our costume on May 10th. We will also be doing outside Stars Team pictures on Saturday, May 12th! We will be wearing blue jeans with either a white or black shirt (I will assign which color to wear), and red accents. Accents can be anything red. Ex: necklace, earrings, bracelet, hair bow, shoes, scarf, etc. Hair and make-up can be done however you would like, but please keep it out of your face. We will most likely do a morning photo shoot. Location and exact time are still under discussion with the photographer. You are welcome to purchase these pictures, but it is not mandatory. You will not be permitted to bring your own cameras and take pictures during the photo shoot. Prices and packages will be sent home in a few weeks.
